VEXANNA E. MERRILL

MIDDLETOWN, CT -- Vexanna E. Merrill, age 98, formerly of Littleton, NH, passed away on Wednesday, February 15, 2006 at the Wadsworth Glen Health Care Center in Middletown, CT.

A native of Coaticook, PQ, Canada, she was born on June 3, 1907, a daughter of Thomas and Philonese (Salway) Dion. She moved to Littleton with her family at the age of 3 to live with her grandparents after her mother passed away at the age of 39 of cancer. Vexanna attended St. Rose of Lima Church, the Apthorp School in 1917, and later the Kilburn School. She moved with her family to Lyman, NH, to the family dairy farm that was eventually incorporated into Ogontz Camp.

In 1922 Vexanna worked at the Norfolk Knitting Mill in Apthorp. She married her husband of 20 years, Raymond I. Merrill, in Littleton, NH in 1923.

During WW II she worked in Hartford, CT for the Arrow-Hart & Hedgeman Electric Co., in the defense manufacturing industry where her husband worked.

Previous to her retirement, Vexanna had worked for five years at the Undercliff Hospital in Meredian, CT, as a nurses aid and as a private duty nurse here in the North Country and Littleton Hospital.

Family members include four sons, Frederick Langtange of Salem, NH, Robert Langtange of Mims, FL, Richard Merrill of Titusville, FL, and Harold E. Merrill of Sodus, NY; a daughter Elizabeth Hallisoy of Middletown, CT; seventeen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was the widow of Ray I. Merrill who passed away in 1953 at the age of 45. Several brothers and sisters predeceased her.

SERVICES  A Graveside Service will be held in the spring.
