MAJOR WALLACE E. MITCHELL MANCHESTER Major Wallace Wally E. Mitchell, 74, died Saturday, December 23, 2006, at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, in Lebanon. He was born on September 2, 1932, in Ukiah, CA, the son of the late Samuel E. and Margaret (Beckley) Mitchell. Mr. Mitchell was a resident of Manchester since 1985. Prior to this, he resided in Hampstead, NH. Mr. Mitchell was a retired Major, having served 21 years in the United States Air Force. Most recently he worked at Raytheon as an engineer for 10 years. He was a member of the National Guard Alumni Band, the Amoskeag Strummers Banjo Band, and the Granite State Ambassadors. Mr. Mitchell was a HAM radio operator and enjoyed working with computers. Family members include his wife of 16 years, Patricia (McCormick) Mitchell, of Manchester, 1 son, David Mitchell, of Philadelphia, PA; 2 daughters, Virginia Jennings, of Atlanta, GA; Peggy Wilkinson, of Somerset, OH; 6 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, a step daughter, Susan Coryell of Downingtown, PA; 1 brother, Donald Mitchell, of Albuquerque, NM; 1 niece and 1 nephew. Mr. Mitchell was predeceased by his son, John Mitchell. Calling hours will be Wednesday, from 4:00 7:00 P.M. at Phaneuf Funeral Home, 243 Hanover Street, corner of Union Street, in Manchester. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, 1:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church, 75 Second Street, in Manchester. The Reverend Gary Rolph, will officiate the service. Burial will follow at the NH State Veterans Cemetery, in Boscawen.
