WALLIE W. BERRY
LISBON, NH -- Wallie W. Berry of Lisbon, NH died on June 2, 2013 at the age of 64 following a long battle with MDS Syndrome.
Born in Littleton, NH on August 15, 1948, Wallie made his home in Lisbon. He was the youngest of three. Wallie's family included his parents, Warren and Virginia and two older siblings, Warren Jr. and Martha. Wallie had a challenging upbringing; choosing to learn valuable life lessons through experience at an early age. By fifteen Wallie was already working several jobs. He delivered pulp slabs to local businesses, ran a rubbish removal service and began work in the local bakery. Shortly following graduation from Lisbon High School Wallie began the business for which he is best known; Berry Transportation. With one bus he began providing transportation services for the Lisbon School district in 1972. Throughout the years to follow Wallie grew the business to include a large fleet of buses and serviced many of the school districts in the North Country.
Wallie's second business passion was construction. He worked many years in the sand and gravel industry working for Moulton Construction and B&M leasing for 20 years. Later owning and operating Littleton Sand and Gravel. Wallie enjoyed running equipment and found it relaxing. He spent many an hour in the gravel pit screening and crushing, or operating one of his skid-steers.
His sense of community and love for the children he drove to school and games enabled him to touch the lives of most everyone he met. Best known for the occasional swear and his heart of gold, Wallie had a story for every occasion and every occasion became a story. Not one for mixing words, everyone knew exactly what was on Wallie's mind. However, no one could question his kindheartedness. Having worked hard for everything he had, he would gladly give all he could to help others.
In addition to serving the community through his business activities and many donations, Wallie was also very activity in several organizations throughout his life. He was a member of the New Hampshire Good Roads Association. He was one of the founders for the New Hampshire School Transportation Assoc. He was a lifetime member of the Lisbon Lions Club; a member of the Grafton-Kane Lodge #46 and the Bektash Shrine. He had also volunteered on the Lisbon Fire Department and served on the Board of Selectmen for several years. Most recently, Wallie worked to help make the new community pool a reality. He was given the Granite State Fellow award by the Littleton Lions Club for excellent service to N. H. Citizens. He was also given a citation by Governor John Lynch for his generosity and dedication to all students in N.H. as well as his contributions to the North Country Boys and Girls Club. Executive Councilor Raymond Burton honored him with celebrating June 13, 2011 as "Wallie W. Berry Day".
Wallie is survived by his partner, Marcia Heath, his son, Scott Berry and wife Sherry, his brother, Warren Jr. and wife Aletha, his sister, Martha Chase; his stepson, Craig Simpson and wife Heidi, his grandchildren, Tucker and Nute; Elke, Gunner, Callie; Grace, Mercy, Patience, Josiah, Micah and Noah and many nieces and nephews; lastly his dog, Banjo. He was predeceased by his stepdaughter Kelly Connell.
SERVICES -- Please join us in celebrating Wallie, his life and all his achievements on June 14th, at 3:00pm at the Lisbon Regional High School gymnasium. Reverend Lyn Winter will preside. There will be a brief eulogy, music and ceremony.
