Walter E. Tibbetts 86, of Bethlehem, died on August 15, 2009 at his home. He was born the son of Wilfred and Christine (Kiser) Tibbetts in Lancaster, NH, August 23, 1922. A graduate of Groveton High in 1940 and Keene State Teachers College in 1951 he enjoyed a lifelong career as an educator having served as a former coach and principal at Bethlehem High from 1951 to 1962 before moving his family to Indio, CA where he taught at Woodrow Wilson Jr. High and subsequently retired in 1984. He then chose to come back to the North Country in 1998 where he was very active in Durrell Methodist Church and the Bethlehem Heritage Society. Walter is a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during WWII. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed extensive travel with his family. He was proud that he had been to every state except Hawaii. Walter enjoyed playing all sports and was a large sports fan. He is survived by his loving wife Karleen (Moore) Tibbetts, son: Dana Tibbetts, Sr. of Lakeport, CA, daughter: Lana Tibbetts of Bethlehem, grandson: Dana Tibbetts, Jr., great-grandchildren: McKenna and James of Citrus Heights, CA and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his sister: Leonora (McMann) Crum of Lancaster. The family will have a Memorial Service at Durrell Methodist Church in Bethlehem at 2pm Thursday, August 20 with Rev. Richard Hanson officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the North Country Home Health & Hospice, Bethlehem Heritage Society or Durrell Methodist Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Keller & Pillsbury Funeral Homes  Littleton Chapel.
