Walter E. Worster, a beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away peacefully on October 8, 2024, surrounded by his family after a period of illness. Born on December 25, 1937, in Bangor, Maine, Walter lived a life marked by dedication to his family, service to his country, and a passion for various hobbies that brought him joy.
Walter proudly served in the United States Navy for four years, and he remained a lifelong patriot who took great pride in his military service. He also took great pride for being in AA for 49 years of sobriety with his AA family. Throughout his life, Walter had an array of interests that showcased his creativity and zest for life. He was an avid bowler and participated in a bowling team for many years. Doing diamond art and paint by number brought him immense joy; he spent hours creating pieces that included various religious scenes, leaving behind a large collection for his family to cherish. Walter had a love for puzzles, particularly word searches, which he enjoyed as a way to keep his mind active.
Walter also loved to dance. In his younger days, dancing was his passion, and he took great pleasure in passing on the family's signature “move” to his children. Additionally, he enjoyed fishing and imparted this love to his kids. Walter was also a fan of friendly competition, especially cribbage and horseshoes, and always found happiness in game nights with friends and family.
Walter leaves behind a vibrant family legacy, including his daughter Lisa and her husband Kevin, his son Mike and his wife Deb, his son David and his wife Kathy, his daughter Cheryl and her husband Rick and his son Kevin and Fran. He was also a proud grandfather to Peter (Rachel), Mikey (Stephanie), Stephanie, Danielle, Tonya, Melissa (Mike), Alicia, Joshua (Courtney), Christopher (Shanon), Nancy, and Brittney (Shawn). His legacy continues with his great-grandchildren: Violet, Olivia, Payton, Paysley, Brennan, Elaina, Reagan, Logan, Marcus, Lexie, Jonathan, Connor, Kalub, Vicky, Brayden, Kayliana, Nahtaya, Emelia, Sophie, Avary, Greyson, Taylor, and Haily.
Walter is preceded in death by his great-granddaughter Kylie, who held a special place in his heart, and who he loved immensely.
A visitation for Walter will be held on Sunday, October 13, 2024, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, followed by a funeral service from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Phaneuf Funeral Homes, located at 243 Hanover St, Manchester, NH. A graveside service will take place on Monday, October 14, 2024, at 3:00 PM at New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, located at 110 Daniel Webster Hwy, Boscawen, NH.
Walter's memory will remain deeply etched in the hearts of all who knew him, and his spirit will live on through the love he shared with family and friends.
