William E. "Uncle Bill" Hayward, Jr., 74, of Hooksett, passed away in Clearwater, FL on April 26, 2010. He was born in Revere, MA on November 17, `935, the son of Edward E. and Henrietta (Woscethowski) Hayward, Sr. He was a graduate of Melrose High School and attended Franklin Pierce college, the NH Voc Tech and Pacific Western University. He was a 21 year decorated United Air Force Veteran and served in the Vietnam War from beginning to end. During his military career, he was fortunate enough to visit fifty different countries while working as a flight engineer. After retiring from the military, he joined Philbrick's Lawn and Tractor and was also employed by Sylvania for 21 years, retiring as a production supervisor. He then worked for Home Depot as a sales associate, retiring in 2005. throughout the years, he was active in scuba diving, hunting, fishing, roller skating, roller bladeing, skiing, 4 and 5 K foot racing and speed walking. He had a lifelong passion for home repairs and improvements and helping others in need of such assistance. However, his most rewarding accomplishment was serving as a flight engineer while bringing home wounded and injured fellow comrades from the battlefield of the Vietnam War to the United States. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He had been a long-time parishioner of Ste. Marie Church. In His Life: Family members include his wife of 53 years, Jean (Fitzpatrick) Hayward; a son, Edward W. Hayward of Hooksett; a daughter, Susan Marie Ford of Norco, CA; two grandchildren, Shane Vincent Hayward and Christine Denise Hayward, both of Hooksett; a brother, Paul R. Hayward of Melrose, MA, a sister, Norma Mastracola of Cape Cod, MA; and many nephews, nieces and cousins. Calling hours will be at Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 243 Hanover St. on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday morning at 10:00 in Ste. Marie Church. Burial with military honors will be follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett, MA at 12:30.
