William P. Kanteres (Bill) passed away on January 31, 2021 at the age of 91.
He was born in Manchester on August 5, 1929 to Peter and Vasilike Kanteres. He attended local schools and lived most of her life in Manchester, NH with his wife, Orania (Nina) Danelules. Bill was the owner of Academy Fruit for 31 years. The store had been started by his father and was run by three generations for a total of 78 years. Upon his retirement from Academy Fruit, he and Nina continued to thoroughly enjoy life & lived it to the fullest first by moving to Hampton, NH, where they spent most of their summers and at their condo in Marco Island, FL during the winters. They did lots of traveling to different vacation locations and foreign counties. Most recently they were residents of the Manor at Birch Hill.
He married Nina in 1950 and they had three children; Peter (Diane) of Manchester, Greg (Janice) of Hampton, NH and Valerie Sabourin of Lititz, PA. He has five grandchildren; William (Gwen) Kanteres of Manchester, NH; Jacqueline (Dan) Eyster of Denver, PA; Dr. Jeremy Sabourin of Chapel Hill, NC; Gregory Kanteres of Washington, MO and Nicholas (Alexia) Kanteres of New Baden, IL. He has four great-grandchildren, Theodor Daniel Kanteres of Manchester, Robert William and David Michael of Denver, PA, and Logan James of New Baden, IL. Bill has two surviving sisters; Constance Aliapoulis of Connecticut and Katherine Keriazes of Hampton. and is predeceased by his wife, Nina, and sister, Agnes Kennison of Manchester, NH.
Bill was a member of St. George Orthodox Cathedral and the Assumption Orthodox Church in in Manchester. During their many years in Marco Island they were active members of St. Katherine's Orthodox Church in Naples, FL. He served on the Board of Directors of both the Assumption Church and St. George Cathedral. As president of the parish council of St. George, he founded Glendi, which has evolved into one of the more popular ethnic festivals in Manchester. He also served as an advisor to the Jr. GOYA and chairman of BSA Troop 114. He was also a member of AHEPA and the NOA Men's club.
A funeral service will take place on Thursday at 10:00 in St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral. Following the church service, there will be a private burial in Hampton for members of the family only. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the St. George Beautification Fund at St. George Cathedral. Please note that current restrictions and regulations require those in attendance at church to wear face coverings and practice social distancing.
