William Thomas Margetts, 92, of Concord, NH passed away on Sunday, November 26, 2023, at his residence in Concord, NH. Formally of Hillsboro, NH.
William, known to his friends and family as Tom or Tommy was born on November 27, 1930, in Center Harbor, NH, the son of the late William W. and Blanche E. (Hardy) Margetts. He grew up in Bedford NH where he attended local schools. Moved to Hillsboro, NH in the late 1940s.
Tom retired from Monadnock Paper Mill after 45 years of service as a lead cutter. Tom, who could never let grass grow under his feet, continued to work into his eighties at Sears Roebuck in Concord, NH.
Tom, as a young boy, could be found riding horses or giving pony rides for five cents at the Lone Star Ranch in Reed Ferry, NH. Spending his summers with his aunt in Center Harbor, NH. When Tom was nine years old, borrowing fifty cents from his father purchased chickens to start a chicken farm. His entrepreneurial grew to a large operation to where he serviced Bedford locals' fresh eggs and butter throughout WWII. Moved to Hillsboro, NH in his late teens to work in his family's restaurant, the Hillsboro Diner. Where he assisted his mother in the kitchen and picked up jobs around town, such as being on the construction crew that built the now SAU building on School Street. Tom was hired by Monadnock Paper Mill where his interview included single handily pushing a ream of paper onto the cutting machine. Working swing shifts for forty-five years he would provide his fellow co-workers with rides to and from Hillsboro. He spoke fondly of his time spent at the mill. Tom’s later years were spent reconnecting with childhood friends and meeting new ones. Days at the lake in Center Harbor, NH.
Members of his family include a dear friend, Danielle La Valley, of Deering, NH; P. Theresa Beaudet, of Northfield, NH her daughters Donna Bickford, Linda Proulx, and their spouses. Loving neighbors, Glen, Kim, and Laurie.
SERVICES: Calling hours will be held on Monday December 4, 2023, from 10 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at Phaneuf Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 172 King Street, Boscawen, NH 03303. Committal services and interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Penacook, NH.
Donations can be made to TRIP Center, Franklin, NH in memory of Mr. Margetts.
