Wilma Sterling, 78, of Suburban Road died Wednesday, October 15, 2008 at her home.
She was born March 2, 1930 in Thayer, IL, the daughter of William and Dorothy (Philip) Hodson and had been an area resident since 1946. A majorette in high school, she loved to ride motorcycles in her younger years until she had a bad accident. She was very proud to have earned her GED at age 65.
Prior to her retirement as a salesperson in the jewelry department, she worked for K-mart for 11 years. Always into customer service, she also worked as a waitress at Kit Kat for many years and previously for Yoder Brothers Greenhouse. She also worked numerous county fairs with her parents when she was younger.
A longtime member of Geneva Baptist Church, she taught Sunday school, Vacation Bible School, was involved with the WMU of the church, and held various church offices.
She loved to crochet, knit, cook, go bowling, and attend county fairs. But most of all, she loved spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Her survivors include her husband of 59 years, Wilford Sterling, whom she married September 10, 1949; three daughters, Patti (Walter) Condo and Pam (Doug) Osburn both of Ashtabula and Penni (John) Kish of Burton; 9 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Jean Bryan of Painesville, Kay Foltz of Ashtabula, and Dot Lewis of Andover; and several nieces and nephews, including Connie Sterling of Florida.
She was preceded in death by one son, Perry Sterling in 1976; one grandson, Kevin Wendell Sterling; two brothers, Albert Hodson and John Hodson; and her parents.
A service will be held 11:30 AM on Saturday, October 18, 2008 at the Ducro Funeral Services and Crematory, 4524 Elm Avenue, Ashtabula. Rev. Joe Ernspiker, Pastor of Living Water Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Kelloggsville Cemetery, Monroe Township.
Calling hours will be held from 5 to 9 PM on Friday, October 17, 2008 at the Ducro Funeral Home.
