Winnifred L. Thomas, 98 of Brattleboro, VT died on Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at Pine Heights Center for Nursing & Rehabilitation. She was born in Wolfeboro, NH on July 23, 1917; the daughter of the late Raymond and Della (Brown) Brooks.
Winnifred was educated in the Freedom, NH school system. She relocated to VT in 1936. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, square dancing and loved to sit and people watch.
She is predeceased by her husband, Leon Thomas in 1994; a son, N. Nygren Thomas in 1998; four brothers, Delmore, Harold, Lawrence and Lowell Brooks; and four sisters, Bertha Abugel, Doris Hodge, Arlene Tuttle and Mildred Norton.
She is survived by three sons, Chester Thomas and his wife Shirley of Hinsdale, Anders Thomas and Bill of Toledo, OH, and Lawrence Thomas of Portsmouth, NH; a daughter, Edith Carrier-Brooks and her husband Ron of Hinsdale, a sister, Phyllis Rouillard of MI; twelve grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, February 11, 2016 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at KER-WESTERLUND FUNERAL HOME, 57 High St., Brattleboro, VT. A graveside service and burial will be at Oaklawn Cemetery in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Recue Inc., 541 Canal St, Brattleboro, VT 05301.
